To Boldly Go where 10 previous movies never dared...

Okay, I hate to say it, but...

Best. Trek. Ever.

Go see it. Go see it now. Then, go see it again.

Was it flawless? No. Did it have plot loopholes and convenient encounters? Yes.

So did Wrath of Khan.

I never thought that Star Trek II would ever be surpassed. I didn't expect this one to; as long as it was better than Star Treks Five through Ten, I was going to be ecstatic.

Casting? Brilliant. Writing? Superb. Acting? Top notch. Special Effects? Perfect.

And several times - silence in space.

The whole movie, I kept thinking that I couldn't wait to get it on Blu-Ray and watch it over and over again.

What are you doing reading this? Go. Go see it. Go see it now.

Live Long and Prosper, J.J. Abrams.

  1. Wait, wait, wait, WAIT! I'm not saying this wasn't a great movie. But the best(?) What about First Contact? That is still the best one ever. That movie above all (movies, tv shows, or animated series) captured the vision of Gene Roddenberry. Not to mention that it made me laugh a lot.
Also what the HELL was up with the lighting in the new Star Trek movie. It was bothering the shit out of me. Not to mention Uhura hooking up with Spock. Are you trying to tell me that the hot black chick is going to be happy with getting some once every 7 years.
All that being said I loved this movie so much that I will have to see it a few times before it leaves the theater. It is now number 2 on my list of the best Star Trek movies. Also number 2 on best movies this year(The Soloist being number 1 this year).

How come we both saw this movie yet neither one of us called the other to talk about it? That sounds like something we would do right away. Where did our nerddem go?

  2. First Contact better than Wrath of Kahn? Surely you jest. It was the best outing of the TNG crew, undoubtedly. But in terms of tension, pacing, dialogue, and writing, I don't think it could hold a candle to WoK. There were no real surprises... Nowhere did it come close to the brilliant strategies of the Battle in the Mutara Nebula, or the sacrifice that Spock made, or the corruption of Chekov (that makes me still afraid of things in my ears).

And it had humor, but compared to The Voyage Home? They are not the Hell your Whales!

I will concede that it quite possibly captured the vision of Gene Roddenberry more than any other movie. But then, I was never all that enticed by the vision of Gene Roddenberry.

I am disappointed by your Star Trek Utterly Useless Nerd Knowledge, though. Vulcan males (and females, if "Enterprise" is canon) HAVE to mate every seven years due to Pon Farr. They are not limited to that time, however, and can mate as often as they want outside of it.

I would've called you right afterwards, but I was with a really hot girl... If you forgive me that, I'll reward you with alcohol!
